Liezel Preller is a sought after advisor in risk and project management. Liezel’s 20 year career has spanned investment banking, funds management, custody services, broking and property – in Sydney, London and New York. She has worked on major transactions, strategic projects and business development – taking the opportunity wherever possible to work in an environment of change, where “problems” can in fact represent significant opportunities for improvement.

Starting as an analyst at Macquarie Bank taught Liezel the importance of building working partnerships based on trust and mutual respect. It takes many people to collaborate together on a major transaction, then to execute that deal and manage it to term.   Relationships are key to this process, and all relationships begin with conversations.

As a risk and governance specialist, Liezel is particularly interested in the powerful link between a culture of communication and conversation and a culture of owning risk management. People manage risk, not policies and procedures. Therefore, Liezel believes that we will see an increasing focus by corporations on the communication skills of their staff and that this will have a significant impact on the health of their business.
